Mariage homosexuel : le bras de fer PS-UMP descend dans la rue

Le PS soutient l'appel à manifester lancé par l'Inter-LGBT contre le rassemblement anti-mariage gay défendu par la droite.

En appelant à manifester "massivement" pour le mariage gay en réponse au soutien de l'UMP à une manifestation d'opposants au projet, le PS prend le risque de faire de ce bras de fer un test de mobilisation populaire, moins de deux mois avant la présentation du texte à l'Assemblée. "Le PS soutient l'initiative de la manifestation du 16 décembre pour le droit au mariage pour tous et la procréation médicalement assistée (PMA) et appelle à y participer massivement", a annoncé lundi David Assouline, l'un de ses porte-parole. Le maire de Paris Bertrand Delanoë (PS) a également appelé "les Parisiens et tous les Français qui souhaitent que notre société suive le chemin de l'égalité et du progrès" à y participer.

Ce rassemblement, qui aura valeur de test de mobilisation à gauche, est organisé par l'Inter-LGBT, un regroupement d'associations défendant le droit au mariage et à l'adoption pour les homosexuels, déjà à l'origine d'une manifestation qui avait rassemblé le 15 novembre un millier de personnes à Paris. L'association avait alors regretté que la "parole" des responsables des partis favorables au mariage homosexuel soit "extrêmement timorée" et appelé à "plus de courage politique" face à la mobilisation de l'UMP sur ce sujet. Réponse lundi de David Assouline : face à la coalition des "conservatismes", "le PS est fier de porter cette réforme et appelle à se rassembler largement".

"Il était compliqué pour le PS de rester inerte"

Le PS a donc décidé de ne pas laisser le monopole de la rue à la droite qui, par la voix de Jean-François Copé (UMP), a appelé ses troupes à participer le 13 janvier à une grande manifestation contre la légalisation du mariage homosexuel. "Pour faire entendre la voix des Français que François Hollande refuse d'écouter, nous serons à cette manifestation nationale", a annoncé celui qui avait promis de faire descendre la droite dans la rue s'il était élu à la tête de l'UMP. Cette manifestation, organisée par des associations d'opposants au mariage homosexuel quelques jours avant l'examen du texte à l'Assemblée le 4 février, fait suite à d'autres mobilisations qui ont conduit dans la rue des dizaines de milliers d'opposants les 23 octobre et 17 novembre (100 000 personnes) dans toute la France et le 18 novembre à Paris.

"Pas question" que l'Assemblée recule sur ce projet de loi, a prévenu le président PS de l'Assemblée, Claude Bartolone, selon qui les manifestations de rue ne devraient pas avoir d'influence sur les parlementaires. Néanmoins, la comparaison des deux manifestations sera faite et exploitée politiquement par le camp qui aura été le plus mobilisateur. Un pari qui semble plus risqué pour le PS au pouvoir que pour l'UMP en crise qui pourrait chercher à se refaire une santé en mobilisant ses troupes sur un sujet qui, à l'image de la défense de l'"école libre" en 1984 , focalise contre lui toutes les religions.

"Pour le PS qui a le souvenir de 1984, il faut montrer qu'on peut aussi occuper la rue avec un sujet sur lequel toute la gauche peut se rassembler dans une période où le gouvernement connaît des difficultés avec sa politique économique et industrielle", analyse le politologue Gérard Grunberg (Centre d'études européennes de Sciences Po). "À partir du moment où l'UMP en a fait un axe de mobilisation, il était compliqué pour le PS de rester inerte, même s'il est majoritaire au Parlement, car l'enjeu est celui de l'opinion", estime Stéphane Rozes (Cap). "C'est pour le PS une réponse du berger à la bergère et une manière de peser pour qu'un engagement majeur du candidat Hollande soit tenu", juge Frédéric Dabi (Ifop), pour qui "l'exacerbation du clivage droite-gauche gagne maintenant la rue".

Revenir sur les mariages gays déjà conclus : «Ca peut se faire», selon Pécresse

En cas de retour au pouvoir, l'UMP n'exclut pas de revenir sur la loi sur le mariage pour tous dont l'avant projet va être présenté cette semaine. Interrogée ce lundi sur LCI, Valérie Pécresse va même encore plus loin. La première alliée de François Fillon dans la course à la présidence de l'UMP affirme qu'il serait tout à fait possible, non seulement de revenir sur la loi, mais aussi de modifier les statuts des mariages déjà signés. 

A la question : «On ne peut pas revenir en arrière et démarier les couples», la député des Yvelines répond: «Si, bien sûr, on peut imaginer de mettre en place un statut d’union civile et de transférer les droits sur un statut d’union civile. Ca peut se faire».

Les mariages prononcés seraient donc transformés pour les remplacer par une «union civile». L'article 2 du code civil précise pourtant que «la loi ne dispose que pour l'avenir ; elle n'a point d'effet rétroactif».

Charlene Strong, Lesbian Catholic Answers Bishop Blase Cupich's Call For Dialogue On Gay Marriage, Referendum 74

SPOKANE, Wash. (RNS) What do you do when your spouse of 10 years -- the person you've spent a decade sharing spiritual, intimate and intellectual moments with -- is suddenly lying unconscious on her deathbed?

If you're Catholic, you make sure her body is anointed with oil. You kiss her goodbye, even if you have to force the doctors to remove the breathing tube, and you slide the wedding ring gently off her finger and whisper a promise to take care of it forever.

That's what Charlene Strong did on Dec. 14, 2006, after torrential rains flooded the Seattle home she shared with Kate Fleming, leaving her partner trapped and dying in her basement studio. But first, hospital administrators had to call a relative of Fleming's to get permission for Strong to bid farewell the way the couple would have wanted.

"They were willing to take the word of someone on the phone, 300 miles away," Strong said. "Who knew her allergies? I did. Her knew what her wishes were? I did."

With the family's blessing, Strong was able to see her partner one last time. But the battle continued, she said, when the funeral director refused to allow her to make final arrangements.

That's when Strong decided that she would do whatever she could to make sure other same-sex couples would have equal rights in Washington state.

It is an emotionally powerful story, and one that brought tears to the eyes of many of the 200 or so students, faculty and community members at Gonzaga University Law School where Strong recounted it on Monday (Oct. 29).

Lesbian couple wedding - We are witnessing history’

Asia is always a controversial place to discuss being gay – let alone discuss LGBT rights – and Taiwan is no different. However, the country recently had its first same-sex Buddhist marriage that took place in a monastery in the city of Taoyuan, despite the fact that Taiwan still does not legally recognise them. Fish Huang (Huang Mei-yu) and her partner You Ya-ting, both aged 30, wore traditional white bridal gowns for the Buddhist ceremony, but instead of rings they exchanged prayer beads in front of 300 Buddhist chanting sutras.
Shih Chao-hui, the female Buddhist master who performed the ritual said it was an historic moment and could be a sign that Taiwan, one of East Asia’s most westernised and most liberal countries, could be one of the continent’s first to move forward and recognise LGBT rights, especially when it comes to marriage. ‘We are witnessing history’, said Shih who is a well-known advocate for social justice, ‘the two women are willing to stand out and fight for their fate, to overcome social discrimination.’ Although many family and friends turned out to support the couple and celebrate, their parents were notably absent from the ceremony, although they had said they were going to attend.
Huang said: ‘We understand that people have different acceptance of media exposure and we want to give them more space. We hope with the master’s support, the wedding will change many people’s perspective even though it is not legally binding and that the government can legalise same-sex marriage soon.’
Huang and You were not the first lesbian couple to tie the knot in Taiwan; in 2011, around 80 lesbian couples did so in Taiwan’s biggest same-sex wedding party which attracted over 1,000 friends, relatives and other guests. In 2003, Taiwan’s cabinet drafted a controversial bill to legalise same-sex marriage and allow gay and lesbian couples to adopt, but it failed. A new bill was drafted earlier this year in hopes that the current president Ma Ying-jeou will push for legislation before his term ends in 2016. Ma has said that public consensus was needed before the government can do anything.

Lesbian Super PAC Nears Fund-raising Goal for Baldwin

LPAC announced that it has nearly reached its goal of raising $100,000 for Tammy Baldwin, who could become the first openly gay U.S. senator.

The first super PAC dedicated to increasing lesbian visibility in politics announced that it has nearly reached its goal of raising $100,000 for Tammy Baldwin, the Wisconsin congresswoman who could become the first openly gay person elected to the U.S. Senate and first woman to represent her state in the upper chamber.

LPAC said Tuesday on Facebook that with one day to go before the deadline, it had raised $45,542, more than 90% of the way toward its $50,000 goal, which the PAC plans to match with $50,000 for a total of $100,000. The group made the appeal to supporters last week on behalf of Baldwin, its first endorsed candidate.

Money raised by LPAC is being directed to EMILY’s List’s Women Vote, which last week released its latest advertisement for Baldwin, a seven-term incumbent Democrat, against her newly mintedRepublican opponent, Tommy Thompson. The $650,000 broadcast and cable TV buy covers Milwaukee, LaCrosse, Wausau, and Green Bay through Sunday.

The ad, “Riding High,” shows Thompson, a former four-term governor and Bush cabinet member, on a motorcycle. It portrays him as an agent of “special interests” in Washington, D.C.

Polling before the primary indicated that Thompson would be the most formidable opponent for Baldwin because of his name recognition and more moderate reputation. He was the only Republican in a field of four to oppose a federal marriage amendment to ban same-sex marriage, although he opposes allowing same-sex couples to marry and supports the Defense of Marriage Act.

LPAC pulled no punching in sending its email appeal for Baldwin last week. The super PAC said, “Secret groups funded by the Koch brothers, the US Chamber of Commerce, and Karl Rove have already spent millions of dollars attacking Tammy. Because she stands up for women. Because she believes in economic justice. Because she’s a lesbian.”

Compared to the leading super PACs, LPAC has set a modest goal of raising $100,000 for candidates and issue campaigns this election cycle, with more endorsements expected soon. The group’s eight-member advisory board includes Chicago Cubs co-owner Laura Ricketts, longtime LGBT leader Urvashi Vaid, and others. The PAC has also drawn support from prominent lesbians including Jane Lynch and Billie Jean King.

NV Lesbian Couple Denied Hospital Rights Despite Valid Domestic Union

Terri-Ann Simonelli and Brittney Leon checked into Spring Valley Hospital because of complications with Leon’s pregnancy. But when Simonelli began inquiring about her domestic partner’s status, they were informed by the admissions officer that same-sex couples needed power-of-attorney to consult on medical issues.
A 2009 law provides states domestic partners have “the same rights, protections and benefits, and are subject to the same responsibilities, obligations and duties under law, whether derived from statutes, administrative regulations, court rules, government policies, common law or any other provisions or sources of law, as are granted to and imposed upon spouses.”
The women tried to explain that to administrators but were told essentially, “rules are rules.” Sadly, in addition to being kept apart from her partner during this ordeal, Leon lost her baby.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the hospital seems to be standing its ground:

A woman who identified herself as public relations representative at Spring Valley Hospital told a Review-Journal reporter in a phone interview that the hospital policy requires gay couples have power of attorney in order to make medical decisions for each other.
When asked if she was aware of Nevada’s domestic partnership law, she accused the reporter of bias and hung up the telephone.”

Maybe the Obama Administration could extend the hospital-visitation policy it announced last year to prevent situations like this?

It’s debatable whether there would be any point to Leon and Simonelli suing the hospital: There’s no real provisions in the Nevada statute for punishing individuals or institutions that violate the domestic-partnership law.

But they say they hope their tragedy will help the push for fair treatment of LGBT patients: “I am usually a big fighter. But I was so emotionally upset. It was a very bad day for us,” Simonelli tells the Journal. “We went there thinking we had the state’s backing, and then we were told we were wrong. It didn’t matter that we were registered domestic partners. It should matter.”

Tony Abbott's lesbian sister can't change his mind on same sex marriage

TONY Abbott's lesbian sister says she isn't going to try to convince her brother to change his mind on gay marriage.

Christine Forster, who is running for a place on the City of Sydney Council, has described herself as "a small-l liberal and a big-L lesbian'' and is in a committed same-sex relationship.

"I'm absolutely 100 per cent in support of marriage equality,'' Ms Forster told reporters in Sydney.

"My brother holds a different view. He believes in the terms of the marriage act as they exist at the moment.

"He is entitled to have his opinion and he's a man of great conviction.

"He and I have a difference - that's what happens in families and that's where it stays.''

Ms Forster is on the Liberal Party ticket for September's council elections alongside computer entrepreneur Edward Mandla, who is seeking to topple Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore.

The Liberal team today unveiled the centrepiece of its plan for Sydney - a 10 per cent rate cut for the city's residents and businesses.

"Sydney is the seventh most expensive city in the world - 50 per cent more expensive than New York,'' Ms Forster said.

"Clover Moore has lost her way. We have a plan to cut the wasteful spending and overcharging.''

Polémique : le baiser lesbien des JO

James Bond, Mohamed Ali, Paul Mc Cartney... Innovante et populaire, la cérémonie d'ouverture des Jeux Olympiques réalisée vendredi par Dany Boyle restera dans les annales. Mais sur twitter, l'image du premier baiser lesbien, diffusé à la télévision britannique avant 21 heures, lui volerait presque la vedette. Pourtant la scène dure moins d'une seconde.

Parmi une série de baisers célèbres
Elle apparaît dans la séquence qui fête la Grande-Bretagne digitale. Sur un écran géant défilent des couples qui s'embrassent. Hugh Grant et sa partenaire, Shrek et Fiona, la Belle et le Clochard et soudain deux jeunes femmes. Ce baiser, parmi les plus célèbres de l'histoire de la télé anglaise est extrait de la série «Brookside» (1994) axée sur des sujets de société comme l’homosexualité ou les violences conjugales.
Pas de censure sur NBC
A la vue fugace de ces deux jeunes femmes qui s'embrassent sur la bouche, une question agite la timeline de twitter : La cérémonie étant diffusée en différé aux Etats-Unis, pour cause de décalage horaire, la conservatrice chaîne américaine NBC censurera-t-elle ce baiser ? Même pas, comme le montre cette vidéo décryptée par un internaute américain.
Sur twitter, les internautes se lâchent, comme la comédienne américaine Sue Perkins qui se moque du candidat républicain à la Maison Blanche : «un baiser homosexuel, une romance multiculturelle, et une sécurité sociale socialiste... Je parie que Mitt Romney va faire une crise cardiaque».
La première image de baiser homosexuel à la télévision saoudienne ? Des rumeurs ne tardent pas à faire de cette image, le premier baiser homosexuel montré sur les écrans d'Arabie Saoudite.
Dany Boyle n'a pas commenté cette séquence. De manière générale, son interprétation de la cérémonie olympique a été saluée pour son audace. Et le baiser lesbien a fait le tour du monde.

NCLR is co-sponsoring a bill to ban therapists from subjecting young people in California to damaging and discriminatory efforts to change their sexual orientation or gender expression. Le calvaire de deux jeunes homosexuels au Cameroun

Au Cameroun, comme dans 38 autres pays du continent africain, l'homosexualité est un délit. Vendredi 20 juillet, à Yaoundé, se tient l'audience en appel de deux jeunes Camerounais, Jonas Singa Kumie et Franky Djome, respectivement âgés de 19 et 20 ans, accusés d'avoir eu des rapports sexuels ensemble.

En novembre 2011, le tribunal de première instance d'Ekounou (Yaoundé) les avait condamnés pour "fait d'homosexualité" à cinq ans de prison ferme, la peine maximale pour ce type de pratique, assortie d'une condamnation au versement d'une amende de 200 000 FCFA, soit 300 euros. Depuis 1972, l'article 347 bis du code pénal camerounais stipule qu'"est punie d'un emprisonnement de six mois à cinq ans ferme et d'une amende de 20 000 à 200 000 FCFA [soit 30 à 300 euros] toute personne qui a des rapports sexuels avec une personne de son sexe".
Les deux accusés séjournent en prison depuis leur arrestation fin juillet 2011, tandis qu'un troisième jeune homme, interpellé avec eux, a bénéficié d'une mesure de liberté provisoire parce qu'il a pu payer directement l'amende. Pour rappel, les trois hommes avaient été surpris alors qu'ils avaient des rapports sexuels à bord d'un véhicule sur la voie publique dans le quartier d'Essos à Yaoundé, dans la nuit du 26 au 27 juillet 2011.
DES CONDITIONS DE DÉTENTION SORDIDES
Le jugement est considéré comme particulièrement sévère par leur défense, qui estime que la décision a été "bâclée". "La faute à l'acharnement d'un juge homophobe qui avait pris plaisir à s'attarder sur le détails des attouchements que les accusés pratiquaient, les perruques qu'ils portaient, et le Baileys qu'ils consommaient, une boisson jugée féminine", déclare Saskia Ditisheim, présidente d'Avocats sans frontières Suisse (ASF), dont la mission est de couvrir chaque procès pour crime d'homosexualité au Cameroun. La décision est d'autant plus critiquée que les conditions de détention des prisonniers sont particulièrement sordides.
Jean-Claude Roger Mbede, un co-détenu des accusés, lui aussi condamné à trois ans de prison pour homosexualité en avril 2011, raconte comment, le 18 juin 2012, Francky Djome a été "passé à tabac par plusieurs gardiens de prison qui le traitaient de pédé parce qu'il avait des tresses sur le crâne". Le jeune homme aurait ensuite été molesté pendant une quarantaine de minutes en même temps que les gardiens de prison lui rasaient le crâne, puis il aurait été "enchaîné une main au pied" avant d'être placé "assis à l'intérieur du caniveau d'où passent les crachats et toutes les autres immondicités du quartier des malades de la prison". Il y serait resté toute la journée jusqu'à 17 heures sous le soleil, privé d'eau et de nourriture.
Saskia Ditisheim, qui plaide aux côtés d'Alice Nkom et Michel Togué, les avocats des deux accusés, espère beaucoup de cette audience en appel : "Notre but immédiat est que mes deux mandants puissent recouvrer la liberté dès que possible. Notre but ultime est la dépénalisation de l'homosexualité au Cameroun."
UN DURCISSEMENT DES SANCTIONS EN PERSPECTIVE
Une dépénalisation qui semble pourtant loin d'être à l'ordre du jour, à l'heure où le gouvernement prépare la réforme du code pénal afin de "renforcer le délit d'homosexualité", en faisant passer de 5 à 15 ans la peine de prison pour homosexualité en cas de "circonstances aggravantes", affirme M^e Alice Nkom, par ailleurs présidente de l'Association camerounaise pour la défense des droits des homosexuels (Adhefo). Les "circonstances aggravantes" concernent l'infraction d'homosexualité commise sur un jeune entre 16 et 21 ans, passible de 8 ans de prison, et celle commise sur mineur de moins de 16 ans et dont la condamnation oscille entre 10 et 15 ans d'emprisonement, le gouvernement n'hésitant pas à mettre sur un pied d'égalité homosexualité et pédophilie.
Les ONG sont de plus en plus nombreuses à se mobiliser pour la défense des droits des homosexuels en Afrique. En août 2010, Human Rights Watch (HRW) et Alternatives-Cameroun avaient demandé la dépénalisation des pratiques homosexuelles au Cameroun, invoquant les recommandations du Comité des droits de l'homme des Nations unies. En mars, Amnesty International (AI) a réitéré sa demande de libération des deux jeunes hommes. L'occasion de réclamer la fin des mises en détention "et autres formes de persécutions" contre les homosexuels dans ce pays. AI recense une centaine d'arrestations arbitraires d'homosexuels par an au Cameroun et 13 d'entre eux ont été emprisonnés depuis mars 2011. "L'utilisation de lois criminalisant des activités sexuelles privées entre adultes consentants va à l'encontre des lois internationales sur le respect des droits de l'homme que le Cameroun a ratifié ", souligne l'ONG.

Lesbian SuperPAC: ‘Girls only’ club joins the fray

I have always loved uppity women, and it cheers me in this post-feminism era that women who “woman up” are getting more uppity all the time.  On Wednesday, a consortium of feisty females  announced the formation of a “first of its kind” SuperPAC distinguished in particular by the lesbianism of its membership. 

Among the founders and directors of the latest entry of money in politics c. 2012, is Laura Ricketts, whose father, Joe Ricketts, is a pioneer of SuperPAC individuality. 

Ricketts pere has already made a mark on the presidential race via his SuperPAC, Ending Spending Action Fund.  The Ameritrade founder and owner of the Chicago Cubs recently commissioned a TV ad concept attacking President Obama from conservative political spinmaster Fred Davis so offensively inappropriate the Romney camp renounced  it. 

Ricketts’s not-so-quietly rebellious daughter Laura clearly hears a different ideological drumbeat than her dad and is joined in launching LPAC (web address:  TeamLpac.com) with another heiress, petroleum scion Sarah Schmidt, along with  several experienced gay rights activists and communications experts.  Lesbian celebrity spokespersons actor Jane Lynch and tennis legend Billie Jean King are quoted on the group’s news release.

As RNC election fundraising and corporate money continues tooutdistance the Democratic effort for the second month in a row, the new group plans to use its considerable resources to elect candidates who support reproductive rights, ending discrimination against homosexuals and advancing economic justice.

Personally, I’m glad to see this significant drift to the left of the SuperPACanization of the 2012 election.  Welcome to the party, ladies. I can’t think of any group more suited to showing the rainbow flag at the political table.

Lesbians now allowed to donate blood

The Ministry of Health has reversed a 14-year-old ban on blood donation by homosexuals by allowing lesbian women to legally donate. The ban on men who have sex with men remains.

The Whole Blood and Component Donor Selection Requirements, released by the Ministry of Health last year, amended the provision which had forbidden homosexuals from giving blood. The previous requirements dated from 1998. It now does not mention homosexual identity, only stating that men who are sexually active with other men are still barred from donating.
An anonymous staff member from Beijing Red Cross Blood Center confirmed Monday that the center and the city's mobile blood centers had received the notice.
"According to the new policy, mobile blood centers should have started accepting lesbian donors from Sunday," she said.
The director of Common Language, an NGO dedicated to supporting lesbians and bisexuals, nicknamed Xian, said that she applauded the amendment and is planning to coordinate members of the NGO to donate blood.
Xian did not know lesbians were barred from giving blood until after the earthquake in Sichuan Province in 2008, when she was told she could not donate blood.
"It's scientific that the policy doesn't mention homosexual identity but only fences off some who have certain sex behaviors, because AIDS is not caused by one's homosexual identity but improper sexual behavior," said Xian.
She added that in the past, although a lesbian was able to donate by concealing her homosexual identity, the new policy is still meaningful for them.
"It is also about our dignity and the elimination of blood donation discrimination," she said.

Le gouvernement annonce le mariage gay pour 2013

La ministre déléguée à la Famille rappelle l'engagement 31 de François Hollande. Le projet soulève déjà des questions en droit de la famille.

À l'occasion de la marche des fiertés lesbiennes, gays, trans et bi (LGBT), Dominique Bertinotti, la ministre déléguée à la Famille, redit «oui» à l'ouverture du mariage et de l'adoption aux couples homosexuels. «C'est la première fois que nous allons défiler avec un président, un gouvernement et une assemblée favorables à un certain nombre de nos revendications, se réjouit Nicolas Gougain, porte-parole de l'Inter-LGBT, mais nous restons prudents. Rien n'est acquis.»

Dans un entretien au Parisien , la ministre rappelle qu'un projet de loi, également piloté par le ministre de la Justice, sera présenté à la rentrée. D'ici un an, le nouveau texte devrait donc être voté. Avec la victoire des socialistes aux élections législatives, la voie de la promesse 31 du candidat de François Hollande semble toute tracée. Pourtant, les contours du texte ne sont pas si simples à définir.

Au-delà du «pour» et du «contre» le mariage homosexuel. Il ne s'agit pas d'un simple toilettage du Code civil et le projet peut en effet transformer le droit de la famille en profondeur.

Un effet domino pour le droit de la famille

À tel point que, parmi ses partisans, plusieurs visions s'affrontent: le couple, homosexuel ou hétérosexuel, doit-il rester l'unité de mesure de la cellule familiale ou doit-il céder sa place à une famille élargie? La filiation biologique doit-elle s'effacer complètement au profit de la filiation élective? Le nombre de parents doit-il être limité à deux, trois, quatre? Les liens entre mariage et filiation doivent-ils être maintenus? Le gouvernement devra donc faire des choix délicats et répondre à toute une série de questions qui ne manqueront pas d'animer le débat législatif.
«Il ne faut pas prendre le problème par le petit bout de la lorgnette du mariage. Le projet de loi présenté l'année dernière comportait des articles restrictifs sur le droit de la filiation, s'inquiète Nicolas Gougain. Nous voulons pouvoir fonder une famille sans passer par la case mariage, comme tous les couples. Est-ce que deux personnes de même sexe pourront véritablement avoir un lien de filiation avec l'enfant dans le cadre d'une procréation médicalement assistée par exemple?» interroge-t-il.
Les opposants, eux, craignent un effet domino pour le droit de la famille, avec, in fine, la légalisation des mères porteuses et la refonte complète de la législation sur les procréations médicalement assistées.

The Washington D.C.-based Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund

The Washington D.C.-based Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund announced 17 endorsements Tuesday including Houston’s Ann Johnson.
Johnson, who is the daughter of former state Rep. Jake Johnson, ran unopposed in the Democratic Primary in House District 134. She will face against one-term Republican incumbent Sarah Davis in November.
Johnson is a former prosecutor who specializes in child advocacy cases in a private practice, representing victims of bullying and harassment in public schools.
If Johnson wins in November, she will be the second lesbian voters send to the state House after Mary Gonzalez’s election in the Democratic Primary in May. Gonzalez doesn’t have Republican opponent in the general election.
Victory Fund spokesman Denis Dison said having two openly LGBT legislators join the Texas House would intensify the impact and change in dialogue among the conservative-controlled House.
“Ann’s deep experience as an assistant district attorney and legal advocate for kids makes her well-suited to serve in the Texas House,” he told Instant Tea. “She is carrying on her family’s impressive legacy of public service, and we are proud to support her campaign.”

LGBT pride is celebrated every June, commemorating the anniversary of the Stonewall riots on June 28, 1969 — the start of the modern gay rights movement and remembers the struggles and victories of the movement. Jon Garaño («80 jours»): «Le premier film sur un amour lesbien entre seniors»

Dans «80 jours», qui sort aujourd'hui au ciné, deux grands-mères découvrent qu’elles n'ont jamais cessé de s’aimer. Un film magistralement interprété, sur un sujet rare, celui de l’homosexualité et de l’amour chez les plus âgées. Rencontre avec l'un des deux réalisateurs.

Ce n’est pas forcément le film qui, au premier abord, séduit. Une ville côtière du nord de l’Espagne. Des existences solitaires qui se croisent. Dont celles de deux femmes. Axun et Maïté. Elles se sont connues adolescentes au lycée. Et aimées passionnément avec candeur et légèreté. Avant que le «qu’en dira-t-on» et les contingences sociales ne les séparent. L’une s’est mariée avec un homme bon, taiseux et maladroit. L’autre a vécu sa vie de lesbienne. Bien des années plus tard, elles se retrouvent par hasard.
Cette histoire d’amour que les années n’auront pas ternie ni brisée a été mise en scène avec subtilité -et même une belle malice- par deux jeunes réalisateurs qui se sont inspirés d'une histoire vécue dans leur entourage. Les deux actrices, Itziar Aizpuru et Mariasun Pagoaga (respectivement à gauche et à droite sur la photo ci-dessus), sont tout simplement grandioses et débordantes de sensibilité. Rencontre avec Jon Garaño, l’un des deux metteurs en scène, aussi chaleureux que ses deux actrices.

TÊTUE: D’où vous est venue l’idée de ce premier film? Il aurait été inspiré par l’histoire d’un membre de votre famille?

Jon Garaño: En fait ce sont deux histoires réunies. Notre productrice souhaitait que nous fassions une histoire autour de gens du troisième âge. Et même temps, une de mes amies, qui a 70 ans, a vécu une histoire assez proche. En jumelant ces deux idées, nous avons réalisé qu’il n’existait pas de film sur une histoire d’amour lesbienne avec deux femmes de cet âge.

Un projet aussi particulier n’a pas dû être le film le plus facile à produire ?
On n’y a pas pensé de suite, mais nous nous en sommes rendus compte très vite, d'autant plus que le film est en langue basque. Mais la productrice nous a soutenus à fond, tout comme la télévision publique basque.

Arlington police aren’t treating anti-gay graffiti on lesbian couple’s vehicle as hate crime

Arlington police say an incident in which a lesbian couple’s SUV was spray-painted with anti-gay slurs isn’t currently being investigated as a hate crime.

The couple was among the victims in a string of 10 incidents of vandalism in the 1100 block of Crowley Road over the weekend. Tiara Richard, a spokeswoman for Arlington Police Department, said the targeted residences had spray-painted images and words on the houses and cars. Homeowners reported the vandalism to police early Sunday morning.

One of the homes belonged to a lesbian couple, whose SUV, pictured above, had the words “faggot” and “queers” spray-painted on it.
Richard said police are not investigating the incident as a hate crime because it is one of 10 incidents.
“We’re investigating it as a crime,” she said. “If there’s a hate element to it, we’ll share that with the district attorney’s office, and they’ll make that call.”

She said the spray-painted hateful images and words were “all across the spectrum,” including derogatory images, drug references, accusations of sexual assault and even a message aimed at police.
“At this point, it’s just all-around ugliness,” she said. “This was not directed at any one group. This was across-the-board ugliness.”
Richard said she isn’t familiar with the neighborhood and doesn’t know whether similar incidents have occurred in the area in the past.
Tom Anable, president of the LGBT advocacy group Fairness Fort Worth, said he’s pleased with the police response.
“We’re going to let them investigate and see where they go,” he said. “I’m comfortable with the track they’re taking. The victims are comfortable with the way they’re going.”
As for the hate crime classification, Anable said sexual images and words targeted both straight and LGBT residents in the neighborhood, so the motive of the vandals is not yet clear.
Equality Texas Deputy Executive Director Chuck Smith said there is a basis for police to investigate the incident involving the lesbian couple as motivated by bias toward their sexual orientation. He said the culprits may know the residents in the neighborhood based on what they wrote on the lesbian’s vehicle.
“It is fair to say that it was one large or continuous act of vandalism,” he said. “Within that, if some of the specific targets were motivated by some sort of bias, then there certainly is a basis for an investigation of any particular house or any particular target that might suggest bias motivation.”
Criminal mischief is classified as a misdemeanor, but its class varies on the amount of damage caused. If the damage exceeds $1,500, it is classified as a state jail felony. Richard said the total damage from the incidents is still being calculated.
Arlington police didn’t report any hate crimes based on sexual orientation in 2010 or 2009, according to the FBI’s hate crime statistics. The city saw two sexual orientation-motivated hate crimes in 2008, one in 2007, and none in 2006.

«Gay» et «lesbienne», des mots indignes d’une reine?

En 60 ans de règne, Elizabeth II n'a jamais fait le moindre geste en direction de ses sujets homosexuels. «Son silence est un signal d'exclusion et d'absence de respect», juge le militant LGBT Peter Tatchell.

A l'occasion du jubilé de diamant d'Elizabeth II, le vétéran de l'activisme LGBT Peter Tatchell a fait entendre un couac au milieu du concert d'hommages et de louanges adressés à la souveraine. Dans les pages du «Guardian», il rappelle que «Pas une fois en 60 ans, elle n'a reconnu l'existence de la communauté LGBT ou de membres gay au sein de sa propre famille.» Pourtant, note-t-il, elle a fait beaucoup contre le racisme et l'intolérance; mais pas un geste, pas une parole pour les minorités sexuelles. Elle a visité des milliers d'organisations caritatives, mais pas une seule qui travaille avec les jeunes LGBT en détresse. Elle a affirmé sa solidarité lors de drames nationaux, mais pas en 1999, lorsqu'un attentat avait fait 3 morts et 70 blessés dans un pub gay de Soho, à Londres. Enfin, elle a soigneusement évité de s'exprimer sur les projets gouvernementaux quand ils concernaient les communautés LGBT.

Tatchell ne pense pas que la Reine d'Angleterre soit homophobe. Récemment, elle s'est d'ailleurs abstenue de commenter la question controversée de l'ouverture du mariage à tous les couples. Il s'interroge toutefois sur son silence: les mots «gay» et «lesbienne» sont-ils indignes d'être prononcés par une tête couronnée? «Il semble que nous sommes les indicibles – ceux qu'elle ne peut souffrir de mentionner en public», résume le militant né peu avant le sacre d'Elizabeth. Mais il ne faut pas désespérer qu'elle se décide enfin, à 86 ans, de devenir vraiment la souveraine de tous les Britanniques.

But the rapid expansion certainly came as a surprise, with Rhodes adding: 'It's not the way we had planned it! But that's how our life works. It's always big. It could never be something like one child at a time.'

The couple declined to reveal details of their son's biological father or what method Rhoades used to conceive.
Jillian told the publication that she hadn't been to the gym for two weeks and had a new appreciation for the many mothers she coached.

UK may allow IVF for older women, same-sex couples

LONDON -- A powerful health advisory agency says Britain should extend free fertility treatments to women up to age 42 as well as same-sex couples, recommendations likely to be followed by many of the U.K.'s medical centers.

The British health system generally pays for up to three cycles of in-vitro fertilization, or IVF, for couples who have been trying to get pregnant for at least three years. Previously, women had to be under age 40 to qualify. Many government-funded clinics already treat gay and lesbian couples, but the recommendations now make that explicit, though they are not binding.

The guidelines are likely to affect only a minority of patients and it will be up to hospitals to decide whether to pay for IVF treatments. Britain's health service is being forced to trim

20 billion ($31 billion) from its budget by 2015 and many hospitals often ration who gets IVF and deny the treatment to eligible patients. One IVF cycle typically costs about

3,000 ($4,730).

Adam Balen, chairman of the British Fertility Society, said the new draft guidelines recognized the importance of treating infertility, citing the psychological harm it can cause. "No one who stands a reasonable chance at conception should be denied the opportunity," he said in a statement. "These (new) guidelines outline how that can be achieved."

The draft guidelines issued Tuesday also say the government should pay for IVF in people with diseases such as HIV who request it or patients facing cancer treatment, who want to preserve their fertility. About one in four IVF cycles results in a baby; that drops to about one in 10 for women over 40.

Elsewhere in Europe, many countries including France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland ban gay and lesbian couples from receiving IVF and often impose similar age limits for eligible women, cutting off treatment to women over 40.

Journée de lutte contre l'homophobie : nous sommes toutes des lesbiennes politiques

LE PLUS. Difficile d'accéder à des données sur les violences envers les lesbiennes, déconsidérées, moquées et mises à l'écart. En cette journée de lutte contre l'homophobie, nos contributrices, Lucille Besombes, militante d'Osez le féminisme, et Magali de Haas, porte-parole, attirent l'attention sur ces femmes, discriminées dans une société normée

En octobre dernier, deux jeunes femmes sont violemment agressées par deux hommes en pleine rue à Charleville-Mézières. Leur forfait : être un couple de femmes qui ose s’embrasser en public. Ceci n’est pas un malheureux fait divers, mais la manifestation extrême d’une double discrimination, à la fois homophobe et sexiste. En ce 17 mai, journée mondiale de lutte contre l’homophobie, "Osez le féminisme !" juge fondamental de dénoncer les violences spécifiques à l’encontre des lesbiennes, trop souvent oubliées et ignorées dans un système de domination hétérosexuel et patriarcal.

Les données quantitatives sur les agressions à caractère lesbophobe sont rares, mais elles ne doivent pas pour autant être minorées ! Il s’agit de violences faites aux femmes, à toutes les femmes, à l’égard de leur genre et de leurs orientations sexuelles qu’elles soient réelles ou supposées.

Comme nous le montre l’enquête nationale de "SOS homophobie" datant de 2008, les manifestations de la lesbophobie sont nombreuses : incompréhension, rejet, invective verbale, discriminations au travail, allant parfois jusqu’à l’agression physique et le viol horriblement surnommé "correctif". Cette enquête souligne également la violence symbolique et l'invisibilité dont souffrent les lesbiennes : le poids de la norme sexuelle dominante qui renvoie l’homosexualité à une sexualité marginale et illégitime, entretenant le tabou qui l’entoure.

Rappelons que l’enquête ENVEFF a estimé que la prévalence d’une tentative de suicide au cours de la vie est 2,5 fois plus importante parmi les femmes qui ont eu des rapports homosexuels que parmi les femmes déclarant être exclusivement hétérosexuelles.

Une sexualité moquée, niée, déconsidérée

Comment se construire sereinement, dès lors que la sexualité entre femmes est niée, moquée, considérée comme une sous-sexualité et assimilée à un prolongement ludique de l’hétérosexualité (représentations véhiculées notamment dans la pornographie de masse) ? Ces poncifs témoignent de notre difficulté à penser la sexualité indépendamment du masculin, et notamment hors de la pénétration hétérosexuelle et reproductive : comme le disaient si justement les militantes du MLF dans les années 1970, "quand les femmes s’aiment, les hommes ne récoltent pas".

Cette invisibilité se traduit aussi au sein du mouvement LGBT (Lesbienne-gai-bi-trans), dans laquelle les lesbiennes sont sous représentées par rapport à leurs homologues masculins, ce qui a pour conséquence un faible poids dans les prises de décision concernant les revendications politiques et l’avenir du mouvement. La santé sexuelle des lesbiennes en est la première victime, avec un retard important dans les politiques de prévention des IST (infections sexuellement transmissibles).

La question de la reconnaissance de l’identité lesbienne ne relève pas simplement de la sphère intime, elle est éminemment politique dans le sens où elle permet de déconstruire les stéréotypes liés au genre et aux modèles organisationnels qui soutiennent une économie de la domination masculine. Lutter contre la lesbophobie est donc un combat féministe, car il s’agit d’un outil subversif de résistance à l’oppression patriarcale et de revendication de l’égalité femmes-hommes.

Une lutte politique

Ainsi, à "Osez le féminisme !", indépendamment de nos orientations sexuelles respectives, nous refusons que nos sexualités et nos désirs soient subordonnés à ceux des hommes, dictés par la norme dominante et réduits à la reproduction et c’est à ce titre que nous affirmons avec fierté que nous sommes toutes des lesbiennes politiques !

Nous profitons aussi de cette journée pour exiger une réelle politique de lutte contre la lesbophobie. Le développement des connaissances sur les violences lesbophobes doit être rendu possible par des enquêtes nationales régulières. L’éducation à l’égalité des sexes, intégrant un volet contre les LGBT-phobies, doit être développée.

Les actions de prévention sur la santé sexuelle et les infections sexuellement transmissibles doivent prendre en compte la situation des lesbiennes. L'adoption et l'accès à la procréation médicalement assistée doivent être facilitée pour les couples lesbiens qui les désirent. Enfin, parce que ce qui n’est pas nommé n’est pas reconnu, il est grand temps que le mot "lesbophobie" fasse son entrée dans les dictionnaires.

SOS Homophobie dévoile son rapport annuel

L’association SOS Homophobie publie aujourd’hui son rapport annuel sur les faits de discriminations, de violences ou d’injures faites aux personnes homosexuelles en France. A Strasbourg, l’association présente son rapport à La Station, le centre Lesbien, Gay, Bi, Trans et Intersexe.
Le rapport est extrêmement complet et montre que les faits d’homophobie recensés ne cessent d’augmenter, surtout depuis 2004, date où la loi a aggravé le délit d’injure ou d’agression lorsqu’il est de nature homophobe. Le Bas-Rhin est malheureusement dans la catégorie où le plus de cas sont déclarés, un classement qui peut s’expliquer par la présence d’une antenne locale de l’association, selon Stéphane Galas, membre de l’antenne strasbourgeoise :

« Comme toujours, les faits constatés augmentent quand il y a une association locale, qui fait connaître son existence. Car il y a de nombreux faits non signalés, les personnes victimes ne sachant pas où se rendre ni qui appeler… Les faits homophobes sont aussi plus nombreux là où il y a de grands centres urbains. Et puis, il y a les tabous… Par exemple, alors que nous allons régulièrement faire de la prévention dans les lycées du Bas-Rhin, aucun lycée du Haut-Rhin ne nous a invité, malgré nos propositions à la suite de signalements. »

Sibérie: le quotidien des lesbiennes «invisibles et silencieuses»

REPORTAGE. D'un côté, il y a Julia et Anna qui vivent leur amour au grand jour. De l'autre, il y a des dizaines de lesbiennes en souffrance. Nous sommes en Sibérie occidentale, à mi-chemin entre traditions et modernité.

L'une est juriste, l'autre travaille dans l'immobilier. La première a 20 ans, l'autre 33. Julia et Anna (photo ci-dessus) ont toutes deux grandi à Tioumen, capitale de la Sibérie occidentale… et ce n'est pas demain la veille qu'on les délogera, homophobie ambiante ou pas! Non, comme dit Anna, «je suis Russe» et «je resterai en Russie».
«Je suis têtue!»
Les deux jeunes femmes se sont rencontrées il y a cinq mois, lors d'une soirée d’Halloween. Peu de temps après, elles emménagent ensemble, travaillent dans la même société, affichent leur relation naissante dans les rues de Tioumen, une petite ville de province russe qui compte tout de même plus de 500.000 habitants.

À écouter les deux jeunes femmes raconter leur quotidien, être lesbienne en Sibérie paraît facile: «En ce qui me concerne, je suis vraiment têtue!», explique Julia, qui vit comme si elle et Anna étaient seules au monde. «Je ne vais pas attendre que la société m'accepte. Je m'impose!», assène-t-elle. «Je m'habille comme il me plait, je tiens la main de ma copine dans la rue, je l'embrasse… Au pire, un passant se demandera si je suis un homme. Mais jamais nous n'avons subi d'agression ou encouru de reproche.»
Boîtes homosMême en Sibérie, on trouve des boites homos, et pas qu'une. Même si elles ont du mal à survivre, faute de clientèle. Le Paradise en est la preuve. Julia et Anna nous y conduisent un samedi soir. Arrivées à l'adresse indiquée, pas de pignon sur rue. Rien qu'une porte close. Cinq minutes d'attente et la porte s'ouvre. «Pour entrer il faut connaître du monde…»

Il semble que les deux jeunes femmes constituent un cas isolé, forts caractères aidant. En réalité, «ce n'est pas simple», confie Sanya Bikina (photo ci-contre), psychologue de l'association Rainbow House, une organisation qui vient en aide à la communauté LGBT de la région. «Notre association n'est même pas autorisée par l'Etat!», regrette Sanya, elle-même bisexuelle. Avec deux juristes, la jeune Tiouménite anime des ateliers, des cercles de parole, des consultations particulières et diverses actions publiques.

«Une gay pride à Tioumen? Ce n'est pas la priorité»
Se balader main dans la main dans les rues de la ville? Mieux vaut ne pas y penser. C'est effectivement risqué. «Dans les clubs homos, d'accord. Ou alors à Saint-Pétersbourg, qui reste la capitale gay russe, malgré la nouvelle loi homophobe en vigueur depuis peu (lire notre article). Mais pas ici.»

Une gay pride à Tioumen? Inenvisageable. «Ce n'est de toute façon pas la priorité pour le moment, estime la psychologue. Et puis nous ne sommes pas assez nombreux à nous manifester. Nous devons d'abord retrouver notre dignité, dit-elle. Beaucoup de lesbiennes et plus généralement d'homos souffrent ici et se pensent anormaux. La situation nous rend invisibles et silencieuses.»

She has returned to the show that made her a star in a storyline that has seen her character Karen Spencer come out of the closet.

And now Joanna Johnson has revealed it was a case of art imitating life, as she has been married to her lesbian lover for the last four years.
The 50-year-old said she shares two children with Los Angeles club promoter Michelle Agnew.

She told TV Guide: 'I'm married to [L.A. club promoter] Michelle Agnew and we have two beautiful children, Julian, who is five, and Harlow, who is two.
'And now we're finding out that Karen is married to this great lady Dani and together they have raised her daughter Caroline, so times have certainly changed.
'I guess that's why I'm ready to open up. It feels weird and wrong to play this revelation about Karen's life and not talk about my own.'
And she said the reason she did not reveal her orientation before was because she feared it would damage her career.

She said: 'Daytime is a whole different world than prime time or theater or film.

President Obama is being heralded as the "first gay president" in a Newsweek cover out today.
The magazine's headline for the May 21 issue and its cover photo, which features a rainbow-colored halo over Obama's head, comes after Obama last week said for the first time that he believes same-sex marriages should be legal.
The accompanying story is by Andrew Sullivan, a conservative writer who is gay, who recounts how he was moved to tears when Obama endorsed gay marriage in an interview last week with ABC News.
While Obama and presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney are focusing today on the economy and jobs, the gay marriage debate has become a part of the presidential campaign. A new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll shows 51% of Americans approve of Obama's stance, yet 6 in 10 say the president's support for same-sex marriage will have no bearing on their vote in November.
Sullivan argues that Obama's life, as the son of a black father and white mother, helps him understand the plight of gay men and lesbians. He writes:

I have always sensed that he intuitively understands gays and our predicament—because it so mirrors his own. And he knows how the love and sacrifice of marriage can heal, integrate, and rebuild a soul. The point of the gay-rights movement, after all, is not about helping people be gay. It is about creating the space for people to be themselves. This has been Obama's life's work. And he just enlarged the space in this world for so many others, trapped in different cages of identity, yearning to be released and returned to the families they love and the dignity they deserve.

Provocative magazine covers have been a talk of the news recently. The Newsweek cover follows a Time magazine cover last week featuring a mother breastfeeding her toddler son.

Gay, lesbian donors give Obama a fundraising boost

NEW YORK — President Barack Obama has seen an uptick in fundraising since he announced his shift on gay marriage, with some Democratic rainmakers citing renewed interest from gay and lesbian donors who had been urging the president to clarify his stance on the divisive social issue.

"The phone calls went on until one in the morning after the president spoke — people calling saying 'Where do I go, what can I do to help, what events are coming up,'" said Robert Zimmerman, a Long Island, N.Y., Obama bundler. "People I've been seeking out for campaign support for months have been calling me saying, 'I'm ready to give.'"

Obama's campaign has declined to say how much it has collected since the announcement, but some staffers have asked supporters to give money as a way of expressing their approval. Following the Obama interview with ABC News, Rufus Gifford, Obama's national finance director, said in a posting to the campaign website that "if you're proud of our president, this is a great time to make a donation to the campaign."

Chad Griffin, an Obama bundler and incoming president of the gay advocacy group Human Rights Campaign, said most prominent gay donors had been supporting Obama all along despite his reluctance to champion gay marriage. Most had already given the maximum contribution to his campaign, Griffin said. But he said Obama's announcement had boosted enthusiasm among many gay donors.

"There was a tad bit of uncomfortableness because of his position on marriage, even though most people saw where he was headed," Griffin said. "The thing he did (Wednesday) cleared any uncomfortableness anyone had."

Obama said Wednesday he supported gay marriage, marking a shift in his personal view on the issue after once opposing it and saying more recently that his views were "evolving."

Even before the gay marriage news, Obama has long stressed his commitment to gay rights. The president repealed the military's 18-year-old ban on openly gay service members, called "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," and instructed the Justice Department last year to stop enforcing the Defense of Marriage Act, which denies federal recognition of same-sex marriages.

Some gay rights advocates have pressed Obama to sign an executive order barring discrimination against gays and lesbians who work for companies with federal contracts.

Obama was attending a New York fundraiser Monday with gay and lesbian donors hosted by singer Ricky Martin, his first fundraising event with gay supporters since his announcement. The president is scheduled to attend a major fundraiser with gay supporters in Los Angeles on June 6, with tickets priced as high as $25,000 per couple. Griffin, who is co-hosting the event, said he was confident it would sell out.

At least one leading gay activist has said he will attend the June 6 event after pledging to withhold support for Obama if the president did not embrace gay marriage.

Lance Black, and Academy Award-winning screenwriter based in Los Angeles, penned a column in the Hollywood Reporter last month saying he would not contribute to or vote for Obama and urged other gay activists to withhold support as well. Obama's statement Wednesday changed his mind, Black said.

Now I can do all I can to help him financially. I am going to go big, and I'm not alone there," Black said. "He blew me away (Wednesday). I walked around for the first time in three years thinking, 'Yes we can.'"
